Valens Semiconductor announced a development agreement with onsemi on September 22 to bring MIPI A-PHY connectivity into automotive image sensors. The companies are targeting three-megapixel cameras, with the aim of reducing component counts and overall system costs.
Under the agreement, the Israeli connectivity-chip developer will work on an offering that can be integrated into onsemi’s sensors. Combining the functions would simplify camera hardware for vehicle manufacturers and their suppliers, according to the companies.
The announcement marks a development partnership. It does not identify a production customer, disclose financial terms or provide a shipment schedule for the proposed integrated sensor. Commercial adoption and the claimed cost benefits therefore remain future milestones.
