An example is the conservation agreement made reached between Perlstein, the Rainforest Trust and and a large landowner in Manaus, Brazil to preserve 800,000 hectares of imperiled rainforest. Other conservation agreements were entered into with the governments of Cambodia, Mexico and Indonesia. Perlstein became involved in the biofuels industry as an early investor and advisor (2010) of Waterland International, the owner of a biofuel plantation in Indonesia. Andrew works closely with the firm’s investment professionals on all investment activities of the firm across all geographies, including deal term negotiation, deal execution and managing outside legal and tax advisors, and serves as a valuable resource to entrepreneurs and the firm’s portfolio companies. He has considerable experience in the practice of investing internationally, including executing and managing investments and advisory offices in China, Israel, Korea and the UK. In managing the finance team across geographies, Andrew oversees financial preparation, investor reporting, tax work, investment forecasts, firm budgets and the like. Andrew joined BlueRun Ventures in 2007 from Gunderson Dettmer Stough Villeneuve Franklin & Hachigian, LLP, a leading Silicon Valley law firm focused on the representation of technology companies, where he represented start-up, emerging growth and public companies, venture capital funds and venture and institutional investors, and specialized in corporate and securities law, public and private financings, mergers and acquisitions and venture capital fund formation. He holds a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and a B.A. in Economics from Claremont McKenna College.
